I was diagnosed with upper urinary tract cancer in early 2018, after a long and unexpected journey. What began as abdominal pain led to tests that revealed serious problems with my kidneys. My right kidney was no longer functioning, and a malignant tumour was found in my left kidney. Two attempts to remove the tumour in a regional hospital were unsuccessful, and I was referred to a specialist centre.
At the specialist hospital, I immediately felt I was in good hands. The doctors were skilled, compassionate, and clear in their communication. Several surgeries followed. My right kidney and ureter were removed, and the tumour in my left kidney was successfully treated. I was reassured to hear that my left kidney was functioning very well, which gave me confidence for the future.
Since then, I have had regular check-ups. In 2020, the cancer returned in my bladder, requiring chemotherapy bladder treatments. Although uncomfortable, the treatment was manageable.
Today, I am doing very well. I feel completely back to normal, with no lasting side effects. My check-ups are now only twice a year, and each clear result brings great relief. I am grateful for the expert care that helped me return to my life.
