In June 2025, a new milestone has been reached in the history of the European Reference Networks (ERNs) with the public launch of the CPMS 2.0 mobile applications.

Now available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, the CPMS mobile apps bring the core functionality of the Clinical Patient Management System (CPMS) directly to users’ mobile devices. Designed to offer greater flexibility and ease of use, the apps aim to support ERN members in continuing their collaboration on rare diseases and complex conditions cases while on the go.

This milestone comes alongside the launch of CPMS 2.0 desktop Release 4.2, which remains the main platform for remote clinical discussions. The new desktop version introduces several important updates, including:

–  Advanced search functionality

–  Audit logs for improved traceabilit

–  Enhanced meeting agenda tools

–  Improved user experience for assistants and administrators

Together, these updates represent a significant step forward in supporting secure, efficient, and user-friendly clinical collaboration across ERNs.

Looking Ahead

The development of CPMS 2.0 is part of a long-term effort to strengthen digital tools for rare disease and complex conditions care across Europe. Over the next three years, the platform will continue to evolve, with the next key milestone being the launch of an open-source repository and community. This will open the door for CPMS to be used in a wider range of healthcare scenarios.

The launch of the mobile app and desktop release 4.2 has been made possible thanks to the continued collaboration between the ERNs, the European Commission’s DG SANTE, and the dedicated development teams involved. Their shared commitment to innovation and patient care is helping shape the future of cross-border digital collaboration in the care of rare diseases and complex conditions in Europe.
