Rare diseases, collaboration and innovation at the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg

  • April 1st, 2026

On 28 February 2026, Rare Disease Day, the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg hosted a conference organised by the National Rare Diseases Hub, bringing together healthcare professionals, patients, associations and institutions. The Hub connects 23 European Reference Networks, strengthening access to specialised expertise and collaborative research.

The event highlighted multidisciplinarity and transversality as essential pillars of rare disease care. Close collaboration between medical and paramedical teams enables integrated, patient-centred pathways across paediatric and adult medicine, ensuring continuity and quality of care. Innovative models, including structured care pathways and a multidisciplinary day hospital, support coordinated consultations, therapeutic education and patient self-management.

Research and innovation were emphasised through advances in genetic diagnostics in collaboration with the National Health Laboratory. Strong partnerships with ALAN and the Health Ministry enhance coordination, patient orientation and national strategy, contributing to faster diagnosis, improved care pathways and better outcomes for people living with rare diseases.
